Imagine jetting off to a colorful island perfectly Imagine jetting off to a colorful island perfectly positioned in the Caribbean. Already sounds pretty perfect right? But take it a step further, and imagine that this is no ordinary trip because this is the place where you’ll finally get to say “yes” to the person you’ll spend a lifetime with.

While the two of you would be happy to embark on this adventure alone, you’ve ultimately decided to invite a handful of your closest friends and family. And by doing such, you’ve also decided to make this wedding weekend feel like a true experience, not just some “by the book” kind of celebration or formality.

You want immersion, a sense of togetherness, and you want everyone to feel like this trip is about more than the wedding itself.

This is where the power and influence of atmosphere reveals itself in its most honest form. And strategically so, you’ve chosen a location and space that caters to each of these things, (and more).

The architecture of your venue transports you back to the peak of Spanish-colonial design. The surrounding landscapes are removed far enough from the modern world that it fills the air with the songs of the jungle. There are gardens, pool areas, outdoor kitchens, and the workings of an equine sanctuary to gather around and exchange conversation. The breeze is warm and welcoming, and it embraces each person it touches with an overwhelming sense of belonging.

The sensory details matter, and they carry a far greater impact than we expect. This is why, as your personal storyteller, I care about documenting the way your wedding feels more than I do about constantly chasing the “perfect shot”. And if you resonate with this sentiment too, we should talk.

There’s nothing quite like the sound of small twig There’s nothing quite like the sound of small twigs and leaves crumpling beneath hoofed-feet trailing behind you. For some, it’s one of the most comforting things a person can hear. It echoes the kind of companionship a horse offers to the folks it trusts, and to be able to document that kind of thing on camera is powerful.

I shared part one of this equestrian series some time ago, making this second part drastically overdue. My favorite stories will always be the ones held in the cracks, crevices, and valleys of the land, the ones surrounded by trees and water, forged in the timelessness of the earth.

I can never thank this family enough for opening up their home to me in this way, and allowing me to observe this side of their beautifully multi-faceted lives. Special projects like these truly fill the wells of my creative inspiration. And as if that isn’t enough, they remind me of where I began this photographic journey so long ago - the 100 acres of land I’ve gotten to know so well over these passing years.

I’m always looking for more homesteading-inspired or equine-focused projects in the warmer months. If something like this is calling to you, my inbox is open and waiting for us to connect. I’d love to hear about the stories you’ve written in the dirt.

POV: You decide to elope instead of planning a 200 POV: You decide to elope instead of planning a 200+ person wedding…and it’s the best decision you could’ve made.

From day one, these two made it abundantly clear that their elopement day was going to be shaped by a small guest count, (I’m talking less than 20 people), a lowkey kind of energy, and it was going to be designed to be stress-free, (as all wedding days should be).

In fact, any eloping couple should take a page out of J & J’s playbook because they nailed their vision perfectly.

They never lost sight of the things they wanted to prioritize, and they never compromised their shared wants to appease the opinions of outsiders. They held true to their desires, which resulted in a snowy celebration split between their closest loved ones and time to themselves.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again - the way you get married matters.

Your elopement day is about you and the one you love, and how the two of you want to celebrate. If you want a 200+ person wedding, that’s great! But if you’re more like J & J, (which I’m willing to bet most of you are if you’ve found my page), then it’s time to peel back the layers and uncover your dream elopement, (regardless of how unconventional it may be).

In the world of elopements, there are few limitations. Dream big, and plan bigger. Wanna chat about how to make your elopement day possible? Shoot me a message, or head over to my website to send in your inquiry. Even the sky isn’t the limit.

Some of the most compelling images aren’t the ones Some of the most compelling images aren’t the ones where we’re forced to smile directly at the camera.

Sometimes, they’re comprised of moments of subtlety - a shared glance instead of a shared laugh, an unrivaled minute of contentment, or when a soft exchange is met with gentle expressions.

This kind of imagery is the most honest, the most reflective of our authenticity. It’s what inspires this craft more than anything. It’s what breathes life into tangible treasures like these.

I’ve never been one to be able to fake how I feel, especially when standing in front of the lens. So, why would I ask something so outrageous, so disingenuous from the people I document?

It’s simple - I wouldn’t.

This belief system is what lead me to find my place as a documentary-style storyteller. It’s about knowing how to intuitively guide the people in front of you without relying on the act of unnatural coercion.

It’s also about knowing when to just let things be.

The way I’ve been craving green lately is unfathom The way I’ve been craving green lately is unfathomable.

Although the icy snow is finally beginning to wither, and spring is only a few weeks away, it only felt right to revisit and revel in these shades of green from A & A’s day.

The way colors affect us is both curious and extraordinary. The influence it has over things like our moods, our comfort, our vanity, and our decisions is more powerful than most of us ever realize.

And it’s for this exact reason that I made color such a prominent part of my one-of-a-kind storyboarding process for all of the couples I work with each year.

Deciphering the kinds of colors, pigments, and tones you resonate with reveals so much to us about the overall design and feeling you want from your wedding experience. Everything you choose is impacted by color - the season, the destination or venue, your attire, your makeup, decor, details, your photos, and even the time of day you say “I do”.

Just look at the art and science that stand behind Color Theory and the psychology of color - it only makes sense as to why the colors you pick for something as intimate and sacred as your wedding day hold so much significance.

So maybe if you’re like me, and you find yourself daydreaming of a celebration wrapped in hues of green, you probably seek out a certain comfort and sense of peace only nature can provide. You might even find yourself drawn towards a wedding day that loudly speaks to your own personal authenticity or elegance, and one that’s filled with excitement.

What colors are your favorite? What do you think they say about you?

(Oh, and if you’re wondering what more my storyboarding process entails, send me a message. I’m happy to give you a glimpse into what 😉)

A tiny glimpse into the what lies in between. I A tiny glimpse into the what lies in between.

I like to think of the details as the little lines that connect the dots to unveil the final picture. Each one reveals a sliver of a moment, while guiding you towards another.

Before you know it, you’re looking back through each photo and you’re reliving the depth of your wedding experience in all of its visual glory.

You’re rediscovering how it all felt. You’re finding new favorite memories. You’re remembering the thought that went into shaping your day with authenticity and excitement.

Sometimes it can be easy to forget the weight that the small things carry.

But that’s the beautiful thing about the art of storytelling - it pulls us back in, even long after the day has passed, and it reminds us of the significance our memories are made of.

There is something uniquely different about witnes There is something uniquely different about witnessing your friends on their wedding days through the perspective of someone holding a camera.

You feel engulfed by silence, yet you’re still actively apart of all the busy things happening in the background. It’s a bit of an “out of body” experience, all while being fully present.

And while A is someone I’ve had the pleasure of knowing for years, and she is someone I’m lucky enough to call a good friend, I still feel this way with all of my clients.

My process, from start to finish with each couple, is extensive by design.

This is a job built off of the entity of connection, it can’t be done artificially. I make it a priority to sincerely know the people I’m working with, to know what they value, what’s important to them, the stories they hold closest to their hearts, and who they are together and individually.

If you’re inviting someone into your world, on one of your most special days, how can they possibly document the depths of all the emotions if there’s no connection between you and them?

The simple answer, (at least in my opinion), is that they can’t. Technically? Sure. But the genuine nature of honest storytelling becomes lost, and that’s where so much of the magic lives.

I knew from early on that I wanted to tell stories, explore them, and I knew I wanted to write them. So if you’re looking for someone to photograph your wedding experience who cares with passion and understanding, look no further.

Let me show up for you the way you deserve.

Spring time is on the horizon, which means it’s ti Spring time is on the horizon, which means it’s time for my annual revisit of this delightfully intimate spring elopement at @historicshadylane.

After photographing M & D’s engagement a few years ago, I was absolutely honored to have been invited to spend their wedding day with them too.

From day one, it’s always been obvious to me why life lead these two to find each other. Both M & D share such an infectious laughter, and have the most “glass half-full” outlook on living through life together. The way they compliment each other is irrefutable, and to witness their relationship through my lens TWICE will always be such a gift.

When M first reached out about their celebration, there was really only about two months before their big day. It felt like a universal alignment - it was one of the last April dates I had left on the calendar, and I jumped at the chance to make sure I could be there!

Their day was, simply put, perfect.

Surrounded by only their closest friends and family, M & D got to live out their quaint wedding day dreams. They had a heartfelt and symbolic ceremony, read private vows to each other, and got to soak up the sunshine as they explored the grounds around them, (oh and let’s not forget about the incredibly fun brunch they had planned for everyone post-ceremony)!

This elopement, (as are all of the others I’ve been apart of), are true testaments to how special it is to throw out the book of societal rules and influence, and get married the way YOU want. Nothing beats the feeling of doing things your way, and the freedom that comes with that decision.
